Lower School Associate Teachers, Grades K–3

New York, United States | Lower School | Full-time

The Chapin School's Associate Teacher Program is an informal apprenticeship that offers early career teachers, career changers, current master’s degree candidates, and recent master’s program graduates the opportunity to learn under a seasoned Head Teacher and gain hands-on experience in the classroom.

Associate Teachers work closely with Head Teachers to create a rich and warm learning community for our students. Duties include planning and conducting small group or whole class lessons, assessing and documenting students’ needs, and supporting the Head Teacher in the daily maintenance of the classroom. Associate Teachers are regarded as teachers-in-training whose role grows as they gain experience and knowledge. Associate Teachers will receive support, coaching, and in-house professional development as part of their program at Chapin.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to education and a passion for working with young children. A flexible attitude, willingness to learn, punctuality, and a sense of humor are essential.

Associate Teachers remain at Chapin for two years. A Bachelor’s degree is required. Those who are bilingual English/Spanish speakers are of special interest, as our students learn Spanish starting in Kindergarten.
